Human Second Opinion

Online MRI and CT second opinion from an independent radiologist

Choose an independent radiologist from our partner network, upload your scan and describe your situation. The radiologist you choose provides the service and writes and signs your report, for you to discuss with your treating physician. ReadYourLab arranges your order, passes it to the radiologist and delivers the report.

Choose a radiologist

Radiology second opinion is delivered to your mailbox within 48 hours (excluding weekends).

What you need

  • Your scan as DICOM files: the folder from the CD or USB stick, or the download from your hospital portal.
  • A few sentences on why the scan was done, your symptoms and your question.
  • A computer is easiest; phones work too.

Who does what

  • The radiologist you choose is your healthcare provider and is responsible for the report. They are licensed in the country where they practise, not in your country or state.
  • Our partner DocOrbit runs the radiologist network. ReadYourLab arranges your order and accepts payment on the radiologist's behalf.
  • This is a separate service from ReadYourLab's AI analysis. It is not for emergencies.

Radiology second opinion: questions and answers

How do I get a second opinion on my MRI or CT scan?

Choose a radiologist above, upload your scan folder from the CD, USB stick or hospital portal, and describe your symptoms and your question. Then accept the Report Agreement and pay by card. The radiologist reviews your images and writes and signs your report, and we email you when it is ready. You do not need a referral.

How much does a radiology second opinion cost?

Each radiologist sets their own price, shown on their profile before you upload anything. Prices currently range from $60 to $150 per scan. You pay once by card: there is no subscription, and ReadYourLab adds no fee of its own.

How long does it take?

The radiologist delivers your report within 48 hours of your order, excluding weekends. We email you as soon as it is ready, and you can download it from your orders page.

What do I need to upload?

Your scan as DICOM files: the folder from the CD or USB stick, or the download from your hospital portal. One order covers one scan (one study). You can add up to 3 PDF documents, such as your original radiology report or clinical notes, at no extra cost.

Can I get a longitudinal comparison of my new scan with an earlier one?

Yes. One order covers one scan, so for a longitudinal comparison you place two orders with the same radiologist, ideally at the same time: one for the earlier scan and one for the new scan. You pay the radiologist's price for each. In the question of both orders, ask for a longitudinal comparison of the two scans and give the date of the other scan. The radiologist can then describe what has changed, for example whether a finding has grown, shrunk or stayed the same. If you only have the report of the earlier scan and not the images, add that report as a PDF to the order for the new scan, at no extra cost. The radiologist can then compare with the earlier findings, but cannot look at the earlier images themselves.

In which language is the report written?

Each radiologist lists the languages they speak on their profile, and writes the report in one of them. Reports are not translated.

Will my insurance pay for it?

ReadYourLab cannot bill insurers. You pay by card and receive an invoice for the full amount by email after the report. Some insurers reimburse second opinions, so ask yours before you order.

Is the radiologist licensed in my country?

Radiologists are licensed in the country where they practise, not in your country or state. Their report is a second opinion for you and your treating physician, not a diagnosis or treatment in your country.

How is this different from the AI analysis on ReadYourLab?

The AI analysis of your MRI or CT scan gives you a report within minutes and answers your questions about it. A human second opinion is a separate service: a radiologist looks at your images and writes and signs the report.
